The history of physical training is rich with valuable insights, and the WWW offers an increasing amount of information that was, until only a few years ago, unavailable to students of physical culture.  Around 1885 - 1920 is known as the Golden Era of physical training.  These guys were among the physical training leaders during those times.  Here are some links to help you understand who they were and what they accomplished.  All of these books and many others can be found in Google's "book" sections.
