Hatha Yoga in public schools has long been a controversial topic,
but it has survived on the periphery of physical education for many years.

Here is a current incarnation.

California educators have been tracking the declining physical fitness of their youth since early 2000,
and have clearly linked physical fitness to academic performance.
A recent report suggests that school physical education programs might even be part of the problem.

The California report looks similar to a  recent Cornell study.

80% of our teens are poorly nourished and inert?

A study published in the February 2007 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine reports that almost 80% of teens ages 11-15 are inert and malnourished.
The report also notes that parental behaviors
deeply influenced the dietary and activity habits of their children.

The February 2007 American Journal of Preventive Medicine includes a University of Minnesota Despite report that in spite of initiatives to encourage healthy eating habits, teens in middle adolescence are eating fewer fruits and vegetables than in 1999.
