IHPRA Newsletter
Davenport has a long tradition of quality boxing, wrestling, Judo, and other martial arts. In recent years, the best of these methods has evolved into highly effective systems of martial arts that teach students to respond appropriately to aggression in a variety of ranges. Worldwide competition in what has come to be known as ultimate fighting has lifted the quality of this emerging art to a level that can only benefit our nation. The Militech School in Davenport has become a magnet for some of the best UF enthusiasts in the nation. Children through adults train alongside world champions in an environment that stresses character development, self-discipline and respect for others. Students learn Western boxing and wrestling, traditional Asian martial arts, and a variety of conditioning drills. This is truly a world-class school, and the IHPRA is pleased that Pat Militech has joined our efforts to improve the health, physical fitness and quality of life of Iowa's youth.

The inside of the gymnasiums of that period will be featured in next month's newsletter. Iowa Army National Guard soldiers from the 1186 Transportation Company and members of the Audubon/Exira community recently participated in a physical readiness training workshop at the Audubon Armory. Training included basic body mechanics, calisthenics, dumbbell drills, and medicine ball skills. Hats off to the 1186th for their commitment to quality physical readiness training. The nationwide deterioration of youth fitness has hit California hard. Nearly 80% of its youth are out of shape. Read about it here and here. Even more info concerning the study is at the California Department of Education website. The picture above was featured in one of the newspaper articles reporting the study. It illustrates how poorly our youth are executing even simple calisthenics. Quality must precede quantity if our youth are to be saved. |
