Area Education Agency 09 sponsored a three-day functional fitness workshop for K-12 physical educators this month in Eldridge.  Practical skills included inclusive functional fitness games and training with numerous hand-held devices such as weights, the Heavy Hoop, med balls, Indian clubs.  The Quad City Times came out to visit.

Looking Back
Burma 1988

Fifteen years ago in 1988, Fulbright Scholar Ed Thomas was working with the Sports and Physical Education Department of Burma to reshape its national vision for physical culture.  Thomas spent nine months in the Hermit Kingdom.  Civil unrest forced evacuation of all non-essential foreigners in September of 1988, and Thomas spent the last three months of his one-year odyssey in Bangkok working with the National Department of Physical Education of Thailand. Click here for more photos and information.

The National Strength and Conditioning Association held its national conference in Indianapolis this month.
Well over 1000 strength and conditioning pros attended.  
The speakers were first-rate, as were the many products on display.  
Hats off to the NSCA.
