Davenport North High School student drowns during PE class; Teacher and paramedics tried to revive 15-year-old

A 15-year-old student at Davenport North High School died Monday afternoon of an apparent drowning during a physical education class.

According to family members, Kwong Lee was a freshman at North, and moved here just over a year ago with his sister and parents.

Davenport Police say they are investigating the incident, which occurred in the pool of the adjacent North Family Y facility on the North High campus.

According to reports, the student was unresponsive when pulled from the pool.

Davenport Police Capt. David Struckman said a teacher and paramedics both performed CPR at the scene.

Lee was transported to Trinity at Terrace Park Hospital in Bettendorf, where he was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m., police said.
