Suit Claims McDonald's Is To Blame For Obese Kids

Class-Action Suit Says McDonald's Has Created National Epidemic

NEW YORK -- A federal lawsuit claims fast-food companies are legally liable for the health problems of some of their customers.

The class-action suit claims the fast-food chain has created a national epidemic of obese children. It was filed on behalf of kids with problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity -- allegedly because of McDonald's food.

The lawyer claims McDonald's has targeted children by including cheap toys with Happy Meals and other menu items.

McDonald's lawyer wants the suit dismissed. He says it's frivolous, and people have understood "for a long, long time" what happens when you eat a lot of hamburgers and french fries.
